Hey we are Jake & Remi.
We just kind of got tired of ordering outdoor equipment online where it looked awesome and failed us the minute we tried to use it. So we started Alvore.
More about how this all came to be: camping out in Colorado late in '23 Jake brought this tent that he maybe had used 3 times, the second night the pole snapped. We are in the middle of the sticks, starting to get pretty cold, huddled under one sleeping bag to keep warm. It was funny but mostly funny after we had already survived and knew what was going on. This was maybe the 5th item that we'd had break on us that year. Remi had the same experience camping and hiking; filters failing after 2 uses, headlamps lasting just under 2 hours, camp stoves that wouldn't light in any kind of wind. You get it.
After having bought tons of stuff we had gone ahead and researched what else we needed and were again let down. Online ordering would consist of a thousand different random things on the website to sift through, and then more expensive, unnecessary things that would ultimately fail us in the same way or others. When you realize that there wasn't another viable option, that was it for us in early '24 and we began working on Alvore.
We don't really have this complicated business plan etc., we just started listing things we ourselves had either used or really researched, that we would have been willing to trust and recommend to any of our friends. Primarily we focused on things that do what is required on a trip versus what might be cool; gear for cooking, shelter, lighting, the vehicle, etc.
We are just us and one helper, working to package and answer orders/service. This really allows for a level of detail and care in our store that you might not find with a larger company, and we really monitor what we put on the website; things that don't meet our expectations are taken off of the website.
It matters to us that when you contact us, or have a problem with an order, you'll be speaking with a person.
